Johnny come lately is the term given the world over to newcomers , strictly in a sporting context , it is applied to new fans who are viewed with scepticism by older fans as fans who have traditionally gotten on the bandwagon and supported the team only because of the teams recent success.
The phrase has been a popular slang term in common usage in the Australian language. It was used by the generation of the baby boomers to refer disparagingly to a newcomer .
It can also generally mean a newcomer or person who has arrived recently hence the term ” Johnny ( no -one specific just generic term for anyone ) come ( just arrived ) lately ( recently arrived ).
